Home is where the heart is

Good Bones is an immersive dance performance that welcomes audiences into the housewarming party of Amelia Hawthorne and her family. Recently inherited from her late mother, Sophie, the daunting new residence echoes with memories of a complicated upbringing.

Amelia sees an opportunity to strip the space down to its studs, erase her mother’s overbearing personality and inject her own sense of control. Eloise, her sister, hopes to use the evening as an opportunity to celebrate the life of their beloved mother and the lessons passed down about womanhood. Gigi, the daughter of Amelia, explores on her own, sifts through the clutter, and tries to learn just a bit more about her family’s tangled past and the grandmother she never knew.

But as the evening progresses and the wine flows, long-hidden secrets and buried resentments rise to the surface. The house becomes more than its walls, its floors, its bones. It becomes a cage, a mouth with teeth, and a sobering warning not to repeat the mistakes of our elders, consuming our young before they’ve had a chance to fly.
